The Executive Director of the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board says open land borders between the U.S. and Canada shows that life is returning to normal.
However Dug Stevenson is one of many involved with tourism and other businesses that hopes the federal government removes the requirement that Canadians returning home must take an expensive molecular test for COVID-19.
Those tests cost between $150 and $300 per person.
Meanwhile Stevenson says the pandemic was good for tourism in the Quinte region in that it forced many people to explore their own country and region, opening their eyes to what was on offer without crossing borders.
However, open borders mean American tourists will return, and American visitors make up about 10% of tourism spending in the greater Quinte area.
