The Ontario NDP party would institute a tax credit to encourage year-round tourism in the province if elected next year.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath made the announcement at Stella’s Eatery in the hamlet of Waupoos in Prince Edward County Thursday morning with Bay of Quinte riding candidate Alison Kelly by her side.
The tax credit would be dollar for dollar spent by visitors to hotels, attractions, and restaurants up to a maximum of $1000 a year.
“It will also help to stabilize and to give hope to those businesses as people come back.”
Horwath said the Ford government hasn’t provided enough support to the tourism industry and that they’ve been pushing it to provide another round of direct grants to small businesses to keep them afloat.
