A Belleville councillor believes one way to ease the growing housing crisis is to put strict controls on who owns property in the city.
At Monday’s council meeting Kelly McCaw issued a Notice of Motion asking staff for a report on all legal options to limit the number of single family homes permitted to be used for short term rentals.
Also she asked for options regarding a possible “need to reside” by-law and a purchase levy on property bought by non-residents.
That motion may be discussed at council’s next meeting however a staff report is also scheduled for dealing with regulations on short term accommodations.
