Ontario’s Natural Gas Expansion Program will allow more than 150 homes, businesses and farms in Prince Edward County to connect to natural gas for the first time.
Energy Minister and Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith was in Cherry Valley with officials from Enbridge gas and the County today to make the announcement.
Under Phase 2 of the program, Ontario will allocate up to $5.2 million to support new connections to the natural gas distribution system in Bay of Quinte.
Smith says the province is making good on a promise to deliver affordable energy and expand natural gas pipelines to even more communities across Ontario which will help families and businesses find energy savings.
Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson says the municipality fully supports the expansion and looks forward to it attracting new opportunities, creating jobs, and lowering monthly costs for residents.
The average household could save between $250 and $1,500 per year in energy costs by switching to natural gas from costlier fuel sources while businesses are expected to save up to 30% per year on energy costs.
