The owners of Picton Terminals shipping port in Prince Edward County have withdrawn their appeal of a county council decision to not allow zoning changes permitting an expansion of services at the port.
On the Picton Terminals Facebook page the owners, the Doornekamp family, say ports are entirely under the jurisdiction of the federal government and not the province or municipalities.
In 2019 Picton Terminals had applied for rezoning to allow expanded docking for large tour boats and more storage area for dry goods but council turned the application down.
In its recent Facebook post the Doornekamps say they intend to be good neighbours and will run their business responsibly with an eye toward making it a world class facility.
Meanwhile in a press release issued early Thursday evening the county says it’s investigating its options.
