Restaurants charged with COVID-19 violation

The Hastings Prince Edward Health Unit has not yet released information concerning local restaurants charged with violations of the COVID-19 pandemic regulations.

At its meeting Wednesday, the Board of Heath heard that a number of warnings have been issued and that one restaurant has been charged.

More charges are expected later this week.

Medical Officer of Heath Dr. Piotr Oglaza did not name the business nor the specific  charges.

“Typically when we share enforcement reports they’re shared as a report once a year at some point be public. We typically don’t release information on a case-by-case basis.

When asked how many other charges are pending and how many warnings have been issued, Oglaza answered, “I don’t have that level detail in terms of the breakdown of different enforcement activities under the progressive enforcement approach. We reached out to all the premises that we normally have in our database for inspection. How many warnings or how many direct interactions – I don’t have that in front of me.”

Director of public health programs Eric Serwotka confirmed the charge.

Serwotka also confirmed that health inspectors are also going into restaurants and bars checking on other public health issues besides COVID-19 restrictions during the pandemic.
