The Executive Director of the Community Development Council of Quinte isn’t really sure what the point of Monday’s throne speech was.
The speech was an opportunity for Premier Doug Ford’s government to present a renewed agenda ahead of next year’s provincial election but Ruth Ingersoll says the speech focused on what they’ve done during the pandemic yet provided very little on what actions they’ll take next.
“You know, when they touched upon the precarious workers that we have in the province and that take-home pay isn’t even enough to pay bills, I thought, oh good, they’re gonna talk about minimum wage increases or something to do with making work better for the average person in Ontario but then, they moved on.”
Lieutenant-Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell delivered the speech this morning saying that avoiding future lockdowns is the province’s “ultimate goal” as the pandemic enters a new phase.
