A Belleville man is facing a laundry list of charges after robbing a store and leading police on a high speed chase, all culminating in his arrest in Clarington Saturday.
Police say they were called to a business on Dundas Street East at approximately 10:40 a.m. Saturday for a robbery in progress during which a man had assaulted an employee and stolen jewellery.
The employee suffered minor injuries.
The suspect took off in a dark Chevrolet sedan and police located it not long after.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at which point the suspect took off at high speeds going west on the 401.
They discontinued the chase in the interest of public safety and notified the OPP with a description of the vehicle.
According to Belleville Police the suspect was involved in several incidents on Highway 401 and was eventually arrested in Clarington on Highway 115 by OPP.
The unnamed 48-year-old Belleville man is facing multiple charges including robbery, dangerous driving and flight from police.
The Special Investigations Unit reports that around noon on the same day there was an interaction between a man and Durham Police on Highway 115 that left the man with critical injuries.
According to the SIU the interaction resulted in the deployment of a conducted energy weapon by police that left the man in hospital and in critical condition.
It is unknown if the incident is connected to the robbery in Belleville but Quinte News has reached out to both the SIU and the Belleville Police for more information.
Details will be provided as they become available.
