The Trenton Golden Hawks continue to show an affinity for filling the net early in the OJHL season.
Saturday night the Golden Hawks played their second game in as many nights, this time on the road against the Mississauga Chargers.
Friday Trenton beat Cobourg 9-5 at home in a barn burner and Saturday proved to be much of the same.
The Golden Hawks put the gas on early, with forward Caden Kekewich scoring just 34 seconds into the game, and never looked back.
Before the frame was up they would add to the lead with a goal from Devin Mauro to take a 2-0 lead into the second.
Trenton doubled up on their goal total from the previous period in the second with four.
Jake LaVille and Aiden McIntosh added even strength goals while Matthew Cato and Devin Mauro added power play markers and took a 6-0 lead into the final period.
Late in the third Devin Mauro completed the hat trick to bring Trenton to seven goals on the evening but the shutout was spoiled when Mississauga forward Jack Tos scored shorthanded on Trenton goalie Ethan Taylor.
All said and done, Trenton took the game 7-1 and barely broke a sweat while giving up just 18 shots on goal and managing 33 themselves.
Perhaps the only negative takeaway from the rout for Trenton was a less than stellar 3-11 on the power play.
Leading the way for the Golden Hawks on the night were Devin Mauro with three goals and an assist, Jaxen Boyer with two assists and Matthew Cato with one goal and one assist.
Trenton takes the ice again Friday against the Lindsay Muskies at home at 7:30 p.m.
