The President and CEO of Quinte Health Care (QHC) is asking residents to continue to be kind to people working in the healthcare system as they deal with a potentially dangerous fourth wave of COVID-19, spurred on by the Delta variant.
In a message to the community, Stacey Daub says medical and other staff are fatigued after dealing with increased patient loads, surgical backlogs and other challenges for the past year and a half.
And QHC, like most other health care organizations province-wide, is suffering a staff shortage. The latest figures show 142 vacancies with 77 of those being nursing positions.
Daub says the fourth wave is a pandemic of the unvaccinated and urges people to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
At present there are five people being treated for COVID-19 at Belleville General and four out of the five are unvaccinated. Most are young people.
Here is the entire message to the community from the President and CEO of Quinte Health Care.
