The Conservative candidate for the Bay of Quinte riding has claimed victory in the 2021 federal election.
Ryan Williams made the statement very early Tuesday morning.
“I stand here tonight as your next Member of Parliament.”
As of 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Williams had a 2,741 lead over Liberal incumbent Neil Ellis. A number of projections have given Williams the seat, including the CBC. Ellis stopped in to Williams’ election night gathering to congratulate him.
“We had a good, clean campaign. We feel that we got our message across to the whole region, we felt this was a campaign for change and that people did want to see a change in this region as we come out of the pandemic and we face the multitude of problems that we do see in this area.”
Bay of Quinte is the only eastern Ontario riding that changed which party was elected from October 2019.
There are still close to 5,600 ballots to count that were mailed in, however it is not expected to change the outcome.
