With the province’s COVID vaccine certificate coming into effect on Wednesday, the CEO of the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce says they have been fielding calls from members about how to implement the policy.
Many are especially concerned about how to get through the first few weeks before the province introduces its vaccine certification app in late October.
Quinte West Chamber of Commerce CEO Suzanne Andrews says they have been fielding many calls from member businesses, many concerned about how they will actually implement the policy.
“Especially from September 22 until there is an app available to help with that. It’s gonna include having to have a staff member that’s designated just to review people’s passes as they come in. So in an environment where they’re already short staffed, it’s finding that extra resources.”
Andrews says while she has not heard of any businesses that will defy the order, many are not happy about it.
“It’s really making the business owner the police on this again and this is something that happened early on in the pandemic as far as mask wearing. You know, businesses are getting the brunt of the anger from customers and others that just don’t think this is right.”
Andrews says they are referring businesses to the provincial government’s guidance document on how to enforce the policy and who is and is not exempt.
She adds that they want to keep pressuring the province to get the app out as quickly as possible to take some of the burden off businesses.
