The Belleville Police Service is reporting a slight increase in reported crimes during the second quarter of the year, compared to the same period in 2020.
A report to the Police Services Board on Thursday shows 1,154 crimes reported between April and June, which is an 8% increase from the same three months last year, but the clearance rate was 57%, which also up.
There were notable increases in assaults and sex offences, with decreases in drug offences and arsons.
Other crime categories stayed about the same.
Members of the BPS Street Crime Unit were also involved in getting about $7 million of drugs of the street, laying 149 charges and arresting 40 people, as part of 13 Project Renewal Investigations.
Police also seized a taser, sword, small revolver, brass knuckles and a knife during those investigations.
