The Liberal candidate for Hastings-Lennox and Addington says he wants to get back to representing the people of the riding, something the incumbent MP hasn’t done.
Mike Bossio, who represented the riding from 2015 to 2019 before he was defeated by incumbent MP Derek Sloan in the last federal election, was on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show Wednesday morning, to talk about the campaign and what he’s been up to since losing his seat.
He says voters were duped by Sloan, who immediately turned his attention to the federal party leadership and “was more focused on his world view than the people of Hastings-Lennox and Addington”.
“I don’t judge individuals and Mr. Sloan was fairly elected, but he totally misrepresented himself prior to that election. I can’t believe that the wonderful people of this riding would have elected him if they had known what his true intentions were.”
When asked about why he wanted to run again, even after losing two years ago, Bossio says he wants to continue to make a difference in the lives of residents in Hastings-Lennox and Addington.
He says his past experience proves he can do that.
“Anybody who knows me knows I was a hard working, straight-talking MP who got stuff done. It didn’t matter whether you were an individual, organization, business, or municipality, your party affiliation, or demographic. If you’ve got a problem and you called, I answered that call and I would not rest until I found a solution.”
Bossio says, if elected again, his priorities include making strides in the pandemic recovery, broadband access, environmental stewardship and improving life for seniors, among other issues.
He added that with all signs pointing towards a tight race, the Liberal Party’s plan to lead the country is better than the alternative being offered by Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole.
“I’m sorry, but he’s got no plan on climate change, he’s got no plan around health care, he’s got no investment into broadband connectivity or agriculture. These are all vital areas that we need to have in our rural communities and he’s missing in action when it comes to these key areas that we need to deal with.”
