The Belleville Police responded to 62 calls for service between 5 a.m. on September 12, 2021 and 5 a.m. on September 13, 2021.
Stolen vehicle recovered
On September 12, 2021 at 4 p.m., an officer on patrol stopped a pickup truck in an east end parking lot. Further investigation revealed that the truck had been reported stolen from the Haliburton area. The driver was also found to be in possession of fake identification and other documents identifying him as another person. Once his true identity was confirmed, the 40-year-old was found to currently have a number of outstanding charges. As a result of the investigation the driver is being charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, personation with intent to avoid arrest, identity theft and possession of forged documents, and possession of break-in instruments. The male is being held for a bail hearing on September 13, 2021.
Bail violations
On September 12, 2021 at 3:30 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a female in the area of Dundas Street and Albert Street who they knew was currently wanted from another jurisdiction. The female was arrested and it was determined that she was currently breaching two of her current release conditions. As a result, the 58-year-old female is being charged with two counts of breaching her release. She is being held for a bail hearing on September 13, 2021.
Prohibited and Suspended drivers
On September 13, 2021 at 3:15 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle in the west end of the city. Officers noticed that at the same time another vehicle pulled off the road nearby. Officers determined that the stopped vehicle was being operated by a male who was prohibited from driving Canada-wide. Fifty-nine-year-old Scott Tufts of Belleville was charged with prohibited driving and given an October 28 court date. Officers attended the second vehicle and identified the driver and confirmed he had been charged by Belleville Police with driving while suspended 12 hours earlier. The 58-year-old Quinte West resident was again charged with driving while suspended and released with an October 4 court date.
