A long time Quinte West councillor should soon have his name immortalized in the community.
At Wednesday’s Quinte West Corporate and Financial Services Committee meeting, committee members voted in favour of recommending that council rename the Centennial Park Amphitheatre after the late Bob Wannamaker.
Wannamaker was a 40-year councillor serving Trenton and then Quinte West.
He was also a well known local musician as part of the Trenton Citizens Band and was a driving force behind the project that became the Centennial Park Amphitheatre.
Wannamaker passed away in December of 2020 at the age of 80.
Before the committee voted unanimously in favour of the recommendation some members sang the praises of the former councillor.
Councillor David McCue said the honour is well deserved.
“I’d just like to say if anybody deserves an amphitheatre named after them it’s former Councillor Bob Wannamaker. Mister Musician, no doubt about it. Great guy, great City of Quinte West citizen. I miss him dearly and I think it’s a great honour to name this amphitheatre after him.”
Mayor Jim Harrison echoed the praise.
“The one thing that we’re forgetting to mention is Bob never asked for any money. Bob was out there working all year long getting support for the programs that he put together. And listen, fantastic as we’ve all said and noted.”
The item will now go before council at a future meeting for formal approval.
