Members of the public have a chance to participate in a History Scavenger Hunt in downtown Belleville, throughout the month of September.
The app-guided hunt, hosted by Belleville Public Library, is aimed at getting people outside, discovering the downtown and learning the community’s history.
During the whole month of September, missions and instructions can be accessed through the GooseChase app, taking participants to different locations throughout the downtown.
Some missions can only be completed on certain days and at certain times.
The missions are completed through the GooseChase app so there is no contact required.
The library is reminding participants to stay safe by wearing a mask, where necessary, and maintaining physical distancing while on the Hunt.
To play, you can download the free GooseChase app from Google Play or the App Store and join the game using the access code ZM8M3L.
Players complete missions to earn points.
If you get a score of at least 2,000 points, you will be entered into a draw for an Indigo gift card courtesy of the Belleville Public Library.
All missions can be completed while maintaining social distancing and can take place anytime of day.
“We hope this walk will be a fun, safe way to get families exploring the Downtown District,” says Jonathan Powell, Coordinator of Children’s, Youth & Readers’ Services. “It is a way to learn about the history of Belleville’s fascinating city centre.”
BIA Executive Director Luisa Sorrentino says, “This is a great opportunity for families to get out of the house, come downtown and learn about the history of the district. It is so important to stay connected as families and a community while staying active.”
The hunt will be available for all of September and the event requires no registration or fee.
