With the return to school just around the corner, the medical officers of health from two area health units have put out a joint statement, with some advice and guidance on getting back into the classroom safely.
In their statement, Hastings Prince Edward Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza and Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hugh Guan, say they are expressing their “full and enthusiastic support for the return to in-person learning this September.”
The doctors say that “in-person learning can provide multiple mental health and wellness benefits to students and their families” and that the health units will continue to work with school boards to keep infection rates low.
In order to do that, the doctors are encouraging students and staff to get vaccinated, calling it “the most effective tool we have to protect ourselves, friends and family.”
They’re also stressing the importance of staying home if you have even mild symptoms that could potentially be linked to COVID-19.
