Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his party want a clear mandate to follow through on their plans to get past the COVID-19 pandemic and get the economy moving again.
So said the Liberal MP for Bay of Quinte riding Neil Ellis on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show Tuesday.
Ellis said just because the NDP said they would support the Liberal’s policies to the end of the mandate doesn’t mean that they actually will.
“As you’re well aware the NDP and Conservatives have brought down a Liberal government before and it’s time to focus on Canada’s vaccine rollout and how we support people with COVID and let’s focus on providing other things.”
Meanwhile Ellis reacted to a comment made on the Lorne Brooker Show last week by Conservative leader Erin O’Toole who said Ellis was nowhere to be seen, calling him a “ghost MP”.
Afterward Ellis told Quinte News he’s brought close to one billion dollars in infrastructure and other funding to the Bay of Quinte riding and has an important role as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture.
“I think that’s you know politics we don’t play but Mr. O’Toole should just google me and he’ll know how I’ve done for the community and our team has done for the community. I can spell Google for Mr. O’Toole and I think he should take a look at that.”
Meanwhile the polls both nationally and locally are close as the federal election campaign continues and Ellis said he expected a tough campaign locally but not a dirty one.
Ellis said he knows and respects Conservative Ryan Williams and the NDP’s Stephanie Bell and says the recent elections in Bay of Quinte have been about policies not personalities.
“We ran a clean campaign, we didn’t run a you know metropolitan Toronto bang ’em out knock ’em out type of campaign, it was respectful and I’m hoping this one will be too and I’m sure Ryan is hoping the same.”
Ellis is a native of Belleville and a former small businessman and mayor of Belleville. He told listeners he was proud of council’s accomplishments during his time recalling the doctor recruitment program, the Veterans Memorial Bridge, and the Build Belleville infrastructure plan.
