The Gift from the Heart charity has come a long way and its founder isn’t stopping yet.
During Prince Edward County’s Committee of the Whole meeting on Thursday, the charity’s founder, Bev Woods, told council that their new community cruiser, a converted ambulance offering free essential oral health care like teeth cleaning and oral cancer screenings, has been a huge success.
She also told council about plans for a 24-foot tractor trailer that will be refitted for a dental unit at a cost of about $250,000.
“It will be fully equipped with sterilization, x-ray capability, as well as dentists and a dental hygienist team to work from where it could be parked for a number of days and provide either low-cost or free care.”
Donations for the project are currently being accepted through their website.
Gift from the Heart is also part of the upcoming Free Day of Giving on September 11 at the Belleville location of You Make Me Smile Dental Centre.
They’ll be offering free teeth cleaning or tooth extraction to 100 people.
