Elks Street in Picton is scheduled to undergo a complete reconstruction.
Prince Edward County council awarded a contract to Cooney Excavating Ltd. for over $1 million at their regular council meeting on Tuesday night.
Project Manager Garrett Osborne recommended the complete reconstruction as the sanitary sewer is experiencing flows beyond capacity and is in poor condition.
He noted the new development in this area of Picton will continue to exacerbate this capacity deficit.
The watermain and road surface would also be replaced at the same time.
Four tenders were received and Cooney Excavating was the low bidder at $1,014,169.90 plus HST.
The project between Union Street and York Street is expected to begin right away and be completed this fall/winter.
