Belleville Council will see a report Monday with the results from a public input campaign on a proposal to realign the city’s ward boundaries.
If approved, the proposal which was introduced by Mayor Mitch Panciuk in May, would split the city’s current ward boundaries from two to four, but a final decision couldn’t be made until a public engagement process has been completed.
A staff report to be presented shows that the city’s online survey received 724 responses, with 41% in favour of the change and 59% against.
The city also received 30 emails, three written letters and two phone calls as part of the public input phase of the process.
Council is not expected to make a decision on the proposal, but will receive the public input report as information.
During debate in the Spring, some councillors noted that they would vote the plan down if the public wasn’t fully in support of the idea.
