While it’s not quite the Waterfront Festival we may be used to, midway and amusement park lovers will get a surprise treat in Belleville later this month, if council approves on Monday.
The Belleville Chamber of Commerce is presenting a plan to host a Midway Pop-up at West Zwick’s Park, from Friday August 20 to Sunday August 29, featuring rides from World’s Finest Shows.
With Ontario well into stage three of its reopening plan, the amusement industry is able to run again and Belleville has been selected as one of just six cities in the province to host a pop-up midway featuring a selection of rides and games, but with some conditions that include:
- Capacity limits may apply
- Controlled entry/exit in place
- No advance sales
- Scheduled cleaning protocols in compliance with Ministry of Health guidelines
- Distance requirements will be detailed
- Masking where social distancing is not possible will be enforced
- Hand sanitation stations will be available throughout the site
The midway would open at 1:00 p.m., with closing times varying and due to capacity rules, “ride all day wristbands” will not be available, but ride tickets would be sold as follows:
- 1 coupon for $2
- 10 coupons for $18
- 22 coupons for $26
- 40 coupons for $55
Each ride will require two to three coupons per person, with coupons available for purchase and used over multiple days via cash, debit, Visa, or MasterCard.
There will be no refunds given.
Belleville will be the third stop on the summer tour, with successful events already completed in other cities like St. Thomas.
Belleville Council will make its decision on the Pop-up Midway at its meeting on Monday afternoon.
