The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board has released a brief statement in response to Ontario’s back-to-school plan for 2021/22.
The board says it’s pleased that students will be back to class in person and that “it is confident that our Catholic schools will remain an exceedingly safe environment for the learning, personal and spiritual growth of the students and communities we serve.”
Board officials say they will continue to work with public health units, local governments and communities “to ensure the health and safety of all students, educators and staff within the ALCDSB.”
More communication about the coming year is expected from Director of Education David DeSantis early next week.
Here is the full statement from the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board:
“We’re pleased with the recent confirmation from the provincial government that our Catholic learning communities will be able to welcome our students back in-person this September. Experts agree that the optimum place for students to learn is alongside their peers with their teachers and support staff in brick and mortar classrooms.
The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) is confident that our Catholic schools will remain an exceedingly safe environment for the learning, personal and spiritual growth of the students and communities we serve. We continue to work closely with our local public health units, as well as all levels of government and our community stakeholders toward ensuring the health and safety of all students, educators and staff within the ALCDSB.
A communication will be coming from the Director of Education, David DeSantis to our parents/guardians early next week, that will provide more specificity on how our Catholic schools will implement the Ministry of Education’s COVID-19: Health, safety and operational guidance for schools (2021-2022) document.”
