Residents in Prince Edward County hopped on their bikes or got moving on area trails last month and helped PEC ride to the top of the pack in the Silver Chain Challenge.
Close to 740 participants cycled almost 20,000 kilometres over the month of June, narrowly holding off Renfrew County for the title of “most active county in Eastern Ontario.”
County Mayor Steve Ferguson issued his congratulations to everyone who took part in the competition which he says serves as a reminder of “the importance of physical activity for both our physical and mental health.”
The Silver Chain Challenge began six years ago, between Renfrew and Lanark counties, as a way to promote active, safe and healthier communities, but has now expanded to include all 13 counties within Eastern Ontario.
The County says nearly three percent of its population took part in the challenge, with no other municipality involved even reaching one percent.
