Belleville Transit is changing its transfer policy.
After reviewing the transfer policies of other transit agencies, staff determined that Belleville’s did not reflect the industry standard.
Transit Services Manager Paul Buck says the current policy of only allowing transfers at four locations is outdated.
“Over time as the routes grew and changed, the transfer policy never changed, it remained the same. And then with the new electronic fare boxes and the way the transfers were issued and with some of the new schedules that we have there are more opportunities for passengers to be able to transfer.”
Buck says the new plan will allow transfers anywhere.
“So what it will allow anybody to do, after you pay your fare, you get your transfer and you can use it at any bus stop heading in any direction, within that 90-minute window.”
The new policy comes into effect August 1.
