Update (5:45 p.m.): Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan has confirmed to Quinte News that the swing bridge has been tested and reopened safely.
Traffic is backed up along Highway 33, near the Carrying Place swing bridge, after a three-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on the Quinte West side, with at least one vehicle hitting the bridge.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan tells Quinte News one of the vehicles involved is a dump truck and that the bridge will likely have to be inspected before traffic can be allowed through again.
There are no reports of any injuries and no word on when the bridge will reopen.
We’ll update the story as more information is available, but for now, drivers should avoid the Carrying Place swing bridge on Highway 33 until further notice.
