One of the residents of Stirling-Rawdon opposing the closing and fencing off of the Harold Quarry south of Springbrook believes council’s recent decision to allow very limited access to farmers for water-taking “absurd”.
Stirling-Rawdon council has voted to allow water-taking for non-commercial operations for 2 hours Tuesday afternoons and 2 hours on Friday mornings through August.
In a letter to Quinte News Alan Coxwell says farmers in a drought situation could need water until late fall.
He also believes opening for 4 hours a week is far to restrictive for farmers, adding that people wanting to take a swim in the quarry could also sign waivers and take a dip.
Council recently decided to close Harold Quarry due to concerns over the cost and availability of liability insurance.
