Cobourg Police say they’ve laid charges in what they’re calling a hate motivated incident.
On Saturday, officers were called to a business in the north end of Cobourg where it was reported a man damaged a sign at the business, yelled at one of the employees, then robbed the employee of an item of religious significance and threatened the employee’s life.
Fifty-one-year-old Daniel Annesley of Cobourg faces several charges including robbery and uttering death threats.
The Cobourg Police Service says it is aware that hate-motivated incidents are often not reported but Chief Paul VandeGraaf says they take incidents like this very seriously and encourage residents to report any incident they believe may be motivated by hate or discrimination.
