Domestic incident leads to charges
A 21-year-old man from Belleville has been arrested after police were called to look into an alleged domestic assault on Thursday afternoon.
Belleville Police were called to the east end just before 4:00 p.m. where the victim told them she had been assaulted by her boyfriend.
Investigators say the couple got into a heated argument and the man, who had left the scene, allegedly used a knife to assault the woman and caused minor injuries.
After leaving the area, the suspect called police and said he wanted to make a statement about the case, but wouldn’t say where he was.
Officers were able to locate him a short time later and charge him with assault, assault with a weapon and three counts of breaching probation.
The suspect’s name is not being released in order to protect the victim.
He’s scheduled for a court appearance on Friday.
