Brighton council will continue to record audio from its closed meetings.
The mayor of Brighton says council has the option to not record closed sessions.
“Council just felt that we’ve been doing it all along. It does provide a level of accountability but it also provides an opportunity if there’s ever a closed session investigation for the investigator to hear what was said.”
Recently Councillor LeBlanc and Deputy Mayor Vink had asked that the recording of closed meetings be stopped because of discussion of personal issues and confusing cross-talk.
However after consultations with lawyers and an Integrity Commissioner both voted in favour of continuing the recording.
