A local charity continues its work to make it easier for the Quinte region’s most vulnerable population to access oral health care.
Bev Woods, president of Gift From the Heart says the organization’s new community cruiser program is called Open Wide.
She says this will allow people who can’t afford preventative oral health care to be seen by a dental hygenist.
“The dental chair is there. We have everything that we need to be self contained inside and provide excellent essential oral health preventative services. So we’re gonna look at your mouth. We’re gonna do an oral cancer screening. We can clean your teeth for you.”
The cruiser itself is a decommissioned ambulance gifted to the program by Northumberland paramedics.
Woods says Gift from the Heart has always operated thanks to donations from the community.
Anyone interested in making a monetary or other type of donation, can do so through the Gift From the Heart website.
Woods says they’ll be collaborating places like local food banks and other community services to set up appointments for those who need them.
