The City of Quinte West is expanding access to high quality security cameras for use by the OPP.
High speed fibre cable is now being installed and by the end of year it’s hoped the security camera system
will be expanded to select intersections and other locations from Trenton’s downtown east to RCAF Road and from the downtown west to County Road 40.
Quinte West OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Christina Reive says the cameras have been making a big difference.
“We do have good views of the major intersections so they’re very helpful with motor vehicle collisions and in the downtown we’ve been able to identify some of our grafitti artists and mischief makers through some of the footage.”
As the security system expands, remote controlled point, tilt, and zoom cameras, as well as those capable of a 360 degree view, will be utilized.
The camera’s data is stored for 90 days and is only available to the OPP.
