Prince Edward County officials are hoping the public will come up with fresh ideas for how to celebrate Canada Day.
Recently the county’s volunteer Canada Day Committee announced it wouldn’t host any events July 1 because of the discovery of the bodies of Indigenous children at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.
Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson says council respects that decision and will look to invest money set aside for those celebrations with other groups that are planning events this Canada Day.
Meanwhile on July 1, the county will launch an online public consultation asking for ideas for Canada Day celebrations in the years ahead.
