The proposal for a seniors living community in Centre Hastings comes before Hastings County next week.
Nautical Lands Group is proposing the development at the southeast corner of Highway 62 and Highway 7.
The project came before the Centre Hastings Planning Committee this week.
Mayor Tom Deline tells Quinte News he is very pleased since the community has “a tremendous amount of seniors.”
“The proposal is basically, roughly 90 condominiums, projects, but they’re rentals. They’re all rentals, one and two bedroom, one floor, one storey. Walking trails, a community centre.”
The company has several seniors developments, including Wellings of Picton.
Deline added, “This company – I’m feeling very confident with this company, so far, with what they’ve provided both the county and our municipality, with studies, a tremendous amount of effort and time.
“Also, for some of our seniors, Mary, who really can’t find places to rent if they sell their homes. Some of them are getting to that age group and so on they’d like to enjoy themselves a little more.”
The project is for residents 55 years and over and will be known as Wellings of Madoc.
County council is expected to deal with the official plan issues next week and Centre Hastings council with the zoning by-law amendments later this summer.
