The City of Quinte West is marking Pride Month with a number of colourful initiatives across the city.
Each June, events are held worldwide to promote the acceptance of people who identify as LGBT+ and while there are no official parades this year, Quinte West is celebrating the month by flying the pride flag at City Hall and Mount Pelion, and painting rainbow crosswalks in downtown Trenton and Frankford.
Mayor Jim Harrison says “Pride month is a great example of how Quinte West is a welcoming city to all individuals,” adding that “we have a responsibility to make all residents feel safe and welcomed.”
While the pride flag will be added at City Hall, it will remain lowered to half-mast until June 9, in memory of the 215 indigenous children who were found in a mass grave at a former BC residential school recently.
