On the heels of the precipitation numbers for May, a local conservation authority is announcing a Low Water Condition.
Lower Trent Conservation told Quinte News the details of Wednesday morning.
Development Services & Water Resources Manager Janet Noyes spoke to Quinte News.
” We have the monthly average of 23/24% of average for May, which is quite low. When we take the three month average for March, April, May, we’re looking at 51% of normal precipitation.”
CFB Trenton is reporting that for the month of May, just 18.8 mm’s of precipitation came in, or less than one quarter the normal level. Noyes says the longer forecasted 18 month tracking hows 89% of normal water levels in the LTC system.
Noyes says people who use municipal water do not have as much to worry about right now, however many are not.
“For people who are on wells, this is a really good heads up for them, people in agriculture, just to be aware that we’re pretty early on in the season here. To have a low water situation this early on in the year doesn’t bode well.”
People are asked to voluntarily reduce their water usage by ten percent.
Noyes adds that the Low Water Response team will continue to monitor levels to see if further action is required.
