It appears Hastings Lennox and Addington MP Derek Sloan could be facing another court summons.
This past Sunday, the Independent Member was once again a guest speaker at the Church of God in Alymer.
Police recently changed the locks on the church due to a previous service, which was alleged to be in contravention of the Reopening Ontario Act.
Sloan and MPP Randy Hillier were both in attendance at that April service and received summonses to appear in court (Elgin County in June).
Penalties under a Part 3 Summons in Section 7.0.2 (Reopening Ontario Act) sees fines starting at $10,000, with a maximum of $100,000 and up to one year in prison.
Sloan says he feels like the rules are being arbitrarily enforced.
“Some people are allowed to protest for some issues unmolested and others who just want to go to church and just open things up and get back to normal, are targeted.”
Alymer Police Chief Zvonko Horvat tells Quinte News Sloan spoke at the church service, which had more than 280 people in attendance. He says they will not be releasing names at this time, however he says summonses will be issued for those actively participating, speaking, or organizing the event.
The church and pastors have already seen financial penalties well over $100,000.
