County seeks title as most active community in Eastern Ontario
Picton – The County of Prince Edward is inviting residents and visitors to participate in the annual Silver Chain Challenge, a friendly competition among Eastern Ontario municipalities to inspire and promote more active, safer and healthier communities.”We have been cooped up inside for so long. Now that the weather’s nice, there’s no better time to get out your bike out or lace up your running shoes,” Mayor Steve Ferguson says. “Throughout the month of June and beyond, I encourage you to consider a more active way of getting where you are going if possible. You will be helping the environment and improving your health all at the same time.”
From June 1-30, residents can log the kilometres they have travelled by walking or biking. A real-time bar graph of kilometres clocked will be displayed online showing which municipality is the most active. The community with the most kilometres at the end of the month will receive the Silver Chain and bragging rights.
Residents of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can participate in this initiative.
Register today and start clocking your kilometres. With benefits to mental and physical health, we will see a healthier and stronger community and economy.
When walking on a trail or park, please stay 2 metres/6 feet apart from people outside of your household to prevent the spread of COVID-19. If you are unable to maintain physical distance, please consider wearing a mask or face covering.
