The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in following the death of a 35-year-old man in Port Hope on Monday afternoon.
The SIU says OPP responded to a domestic call at the Comfort Inn on Northumberland County Road 28 around 4:15 p.m.
In the hallway, officers engaged in a discussion with a man from one of the rooms.
The man closed the door and the officers left.
Later OPP and Port Hope Police returned to the hotel to arrest the man.
Officers left after the man did not answer the door.
Around 10 a.m. Tuesday, officers breached the hotel room door and found the man deceased.
Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
