With the announcement that anyone over 12 years old in Ontario can now get a COVID-19 vaccine, the local public health unit is pivoting.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health announced Sunday that in the next few weeks the health unit will host special youth COVID-19 vaccination clinics offering Pfizer, the only vaccine currently approved for children 12 and over.
According to a press release from the health unit, eligible children will receive booking information through their school boards and schools in the coming days but are asking for patience as plans for the clinics are finalized.
The press release also noted that COVID-19 incidence is low in schools in the area and that getting the vaccine to students will further reduce the risk of transmission.
It also stressed that students continue to follow COVID-19 public health guidelines including mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing and only leaving home for essential reasons.
