The province’s Infrastructure Ontario Loan Program is providing Tweed with affordable, long-term financing for its wastewater lagoon expansion, as announced in December. It is also receiving direct funding from provincial and federal grants for the $4.5 million project.
MPP Daryl Kramp heralded the start of construction and referred to the project approval announcement 5 months ago.
“As I said in December, every corner of our two counties can affect every other corner when it comes to waste management and so this is an important investment not only by and for Tweed, but also for all its neighbours in every direction. I thank Mayor Albert and Tweed for their leadership in undertaking this project and am very happy to salute the timely provincial and federal support for this green project,” said Kramp.
Mayor Jo-Anne Albert said Tweed appreciates the provincial loan arrangement.
“We are pleased to have been able to secure a long term loan with Infrastructure Ontario that supports our Wastewater Lagoon System Upgrades,” said Mayor Albert. “Working with Infrastructure Ontario has been a positive experience and this is supporting a much-needed project within our community.”
Infrastructure Ontario loans can be used to finance a broad range of capital expenditures including construction and expansions, energy-efficiency projects, and equipment purchases. IO leverages the strength of the Province’s strong credit rating and passes savings along to its borrowers with no additional fees.
With more than 440 clients, including municipalities and non-profits, the Loan Program has helped finance a great variety of infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads, bridges, arena complexes and long-term care homes, and the acquisition and installation of capital assets such as fire trucks and energy-efficient lighting.
