Charges laid under Liquor Licence Act
A 30-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged earlier this month under the province’s liquor licence act.
Officers were called to a report of a suspicious person in the east end, around 8:45 p.m. on May 12 and found the man, who they say, was incoherent and had trouble walking on his own.
Police took the man into custody for his own safety and the safety of others, eventually laying a charge of being in drunk in public.
No other details were released.
Car owner catches would-be thief red-handed
A report of a man stealing from cars in Belleville’s downtown core has led to a court date for a 29 year-old city man.
Investigators say the owner of a car caught the suspect red-handed and called police, with the man complying and staying at the scene until officers arrived.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was charged with theft under $5,000 and breaching probation.
He was held for a court appearance Friday after officers learned that he was also wanted on numerous other outstanding charges.
That was just one of 71 calls for service Belleville Police officers received over the last 24 hours.
