The community in Northumberland is rallying around a longtime paramedic and mother of three, who is on life support due to COVID-19.
Joni Krampert went to the Northumberland Hills Emergency Department on April 25, with difficulty breathing and was immediately admitted to the ICU, then put on a ventilator, barely 24 hours after testing positive for the virus.
Since then, she has suffered a respiratory failure and now has an infection from sepsis. She has been transferred to other hospitals in Peterborough and now Toronto, where she is on life support.
A GoFundMe Page started by Krampert’s best friend has raised more than $14,000 in just one day, with that money going to support the cost of her recovery and travel expenses for her family to visit her.
