Tweed’s new senior hockey team has named its general manager.
Tweed native John Desjardins will take the reigns of the yet-to-be-named team, which is set to begin play this season in the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League.
Desjardins is a retired CP rail worker with years of experience playing and coaching hockey in the Tweed area and says he’s “looking forward to being part of the community again”.
The team in Tweed will run as a revenue-neutral operation with any potential revenue going towards operating costs of the town’s arena.
Tweed’s Manager of Community Development Rachelle Hardesty says they hope to have a name for the new franchise soon.
The EOSHL has teams stretching from which has 12 teams and rosters including players aged 20 years-old and up.
