National Nursing Week is May 10 to 16. The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation extends their most heartfelt thanks to all local nurses, caring for patients at our hospital – Quinte Healthcare-Trenton Memorial, as well as in doctors’ clinics, long-term care homes, and throughout the community. Being a nurse means being selfless. It means giving up the holidays with family. It means endless night shifts and weekends. In times like these, during the pandemic, they are taking huge risks, missing family, taking care of others, while trying to protect their own families as well. They are simply irreplaceable and extremely valuable.
Nursing Week is the annual celebration of the nursing profession, recognizing Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses and Nurse Practitioners. It is held every May to coincide with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
The theme this year is #WeAnswerTheCall which was developed by the Canadian Nurses Association to showcase the many roles that nurses play in a patient’s health-care journey. The pandemic brought to light the courage and commitment that nurses work under every day and showed the important role that nurses play in the community.
“TMHF is proud to acknowledge and support our local nurses, every day but especially during Nurses’ Week. We recognize that the nursing profession can be exhausting and challenging, but also incredibly gratifying. Now more than ever, it is important to acknowledge that no matter what the landscape looks like, nurses are dedicated to helping those in need,” says Wendy Warner, TMHF Executive Director.
This is a great time to recognize nurses who have provided your family with the highest standards of care, compassion and dedication. Nominate them as a “Shining Star” of care, through the Grateful Patient Program at the TMH Foundation. You can donate online at www.tmhfoundation.com or by calling 613-392-2540 ext. 5401.
