The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board will look to approve a new name for the consolidated K-12 Centre Hastings Secondary School Monday.
Since the decision to close Madoc Public School in 2016-17 to consolidate Madoc Public School and Centre Hastings Secondary School, a committee has been tasked with recommending a new name for the school.
The committee, which features student, parent, community and staff representatives from both schools, has officially reached consensus on a new name.
At Monday’s school board committee of the whole meeting, the committee will see a report recommending the school be renamed “Central Hastings School”.
According to the meeting agenda, the name was selected due to the local OPP and health unit incorporating “Central” into their titles to be more inclusive to the broad areas they serve. It says “Central” takes into consideration all the feeder schools and is welcoming and supportive for the new school.
