A single vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Quinte West has resulted in weapons and drug charges against two people.
Quinte West OPP responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch on Bellevue Drive between Roblin Road and Sidney Street North just before 4 a.m.
Officers arrived to find two people standing with the vehicle.
A backpack containing a suspected loaded handgun was located on the ground nearby.
A quantity of suspected fentanyl, a prohibited knife, three replica firearms, a can of bear spray as well as multiple cellular phones were seized.
Debra Smid, 44 years old of Quinte West been charged with the following offences:
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon;
- Possession of a schedule I substance – Fentanyl; and
- Failure to comply with Undertaking
The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on May 27, 2021.
Trevor Cox, 32 years old of Belleville has been charged with the following offences:
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon;
- Possession of a schedule I substance – Fentanyl;
- Fail to comply with probation order – two counts
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order – five counts
The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on May 6, 2021.
