The third wave of COVID-19 in this country drove up the unemployment rate last month to 8.1% from 7.5% in March.
And the Quinte region unemployment rate followed the trend.
The unemployment rate in the Belleville Census Metropolitan Area which includes Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon and Tyendinaga in April was 12%, up from 10.4% in March.
However the rate was lower than it was in April of 2020.
Meanwhile Ontario’s unemployment rate rose to nine percent.
