Local marijuana production and regulations surrounding it will be up for discussion tonight (Monday) at a meeting of Quinte West council.
Health Canada is consulting with municipalities after receiving many complaints about its licensing procedures.
Quinte West council will see a staff report saying local officials believe licences for personal use allow far too many marijuana plants to be grown, and that people with designated licences to grow medical marijuana often band together at one location creating commercial-sized operations.
The overarching local concern is a lack of enforcement from Health Canada on licensees and a lack of local control on how grow-ops are run.
